Aims & Objectives

  • To inspire and empower young people to enjoy the activities & knowledge in holistic native species tree cultivation and care.

  • To teach young children (primary school age) the fundamentals of holistic native tree growing through hands-on experience in the The Deer Wood Native Tree Nursery Learning Area.

  • To demonstrate and encourage children to actively participate in the key stages of holistic tree growing: from seed collection and sowing to woodland compost making and tree planting.

  • To cover these areas through the key times of the seasons, encouraging hands on experience at all of these stages.

  • To successfully impart how vitally important this is for future generations - the knowledge that growing trees holistically is fascinating, important and fun.

  • To gather data and feedback for each session to evaluate the effectiveness of our objectives.

  • To use ongoing data and feedback to inform and revise the project so that it can be improved and deveoped for scale and rolled out to a whole year group in this and other local schools for a years worth of seasonal sessions.

  • To liaise closely with local primary schools to achieve our aims.

  • To inspire schools and the local community with the knowledge of how to successfully grow and care for healthy native species trees, holistically.
